I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die discover that I had not lived.
-Henry David Thoreau
Why Us?
Authentic Care for the Craft of Development
I have been helping unleash potential and performance for individuals and teams for over two decades. During this time, I have developed expertise across a variety of learning and development methodologies, assessment tools and frameworks. It brings me great joy to help others remove limiting beliefs, create new mindsets and habits, and to see others flourish in their personal and professional pursuits.
Diverse Experiences and Pragmatic Approach
My diverse experiences give me a unique lens when approaching my work. I have been a founder or co-founder in a startup, a small business owner, and also worked in Fortune 100 Executive roles. This allows me to relate to the clients we support, having been in their shoes. As an experienced owner/operator my work is always rooted in pragmatism and application, equipping leaders and teams with tools and techniques to help them with where they are trying to go, as well as where they currently are in their journey.
Holistic Approach
We have found some of the most impactful work happens when people look at their whole lives and at how their professional work fits within that. We are skilled and experienced helping high performing leaders and teams set the right boundaries and build the right habits that give work the right amount of focus but does not consume the other important parts of their lives.
What’s in a Name?
I named the company after Matsuo Basho, one of the masters of Japanese Haiku, and after Henry David Thoreau's classic book Walden. The name is personal and authentic to me; as a poet myself and because I have always resonated with the lessons Thoreau wrote about in Walden: independence, connection to nature, and focusing on what matters most in life.
Basho had the ability to capture deep thoughts and observations through just a few words. One of the goals of our work at Basho Walden is to help others articulate what matters most to them and to spend the time to dig deep enough to discover what that is.
Walden the book is a powerful reminder on the importance of taking time out to reflect and observe. Our work at Basho Walden helps our clients slow down, and invest in figuring out what is working and not working in their personal and professional lives and perhaps charting a new course with clarity and focus.
